Program
We are featuring well over 80 members - over half the total membership - on the program this year. We believe that Smofcon is most effective when the program features a diverse range of participants - by age, experience and gender. We expect to achieve gender parity across the program as a whole and on the majority of individual program items.
Throughout the weekend, there will be workshops, panels, and roundtable discussions in addition to constant networking. The full program will be announced Fall 2016, although we will update this page as we can throughout the year, particularly with regards to workshop details.
Friday
We are planning an all day workshop on Friday that will focus on how to do a thorough accessibility walkthrough of a hotel. There will be other workshops as well that day, Dynamic Leadership and Communication and Chairs' Round Table.
We are also planning a “Welcome to Smofcon” session on Friday, which will be a great opportunity for first-time Smofcon attendees to get themselves oriented and start meeting other attendees.
Saturday and Sunday
There will be several programming panels, as well as opportunities for “birds of a feather” or “special interest group” roundtables.
There is also a large event held on Saturday evening, known as the “Fannish Inquisition,” where seated Worldcons and NASFiCs (North American Science Fiction Conventions) present updates on their progress, and where bids for future Worldcons and NASFiCs also present on their status.
Additionally, this is the session where the 2017 Smofcon will be chosen by the membership.
