My husband's maternal grandmother's last name was O'Brien. They settled in the Pittsburgh area at some point in the late 1800s. The O'Briens came from County Mayo. One O'Brien married a Sweeney (who came from Cork) and their daughter Mary married Martin Howarth.
The "area of origin" may be reversed - the Sweeneys may have come from County Mayo and the O'Briens may have come from Cork.
