I was intrigued to notice that Retire Trask and President James Madison were almost exact contemporaries:
Birth | Death | |
---|---|---|
Retire Trask | 2/22/1751 | 11/7/1837 |
James Madison | 3/16/1751 | 6/28/1836 |
They had another thing in common - marrying younger widows (with at least one child) who turned out to be quite accomplished in their own rights. Mary Trask performed so many medical duties with her husband she was known as the "doctress," and Dolley Madison essentially created the Washington social scene and rescued some portraits from the White House before the British invaded during the War of 1812.
