Archive Site: American Philosophical Society Presentation - Thursday, August 30
The American Philosphical Society has offered to do
a presentation of
their holdings of interest to MilPhil participants, which includes a
variety of holdings from UFO materials to Benjamin Franklin's papers.
They also have a "Treasures" exhibit which participants in the event are
invited to examine--this includes
not only one of the first printed copies of the Declaration of
Independence, but a hand written draft of the Declaration in Thomas
Jefferson's own hand. They have half of Penn's original charter on
display, and several of the Louis and Clark journals, among other
exciting historical documents.
The schedule is:
- Participants will meet in the lobby of the Marriott near the gift shop at
2:30 (it takes about a half hour to get there and get settled
for the persentation.) We will plan to take a Philly Phlash bus to the
APS, which is just off Independence Hall. The Philly Phlash bus
costs $4.00 for an all-day pass.
- The presentation at the American Philosophical Society will go from 3:00 to 4:00. There is no charge to go to this event.
- At 4:00, participants will have an opportunity to view the exhibits and
then will be on their own to return to the convention, or to view
Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, or any other historical sites in
that vicinity.
